We’re excited to announce our support of Legends of the Past (LOP), the free-to-play mobile game created by ex-AAA gaming studio figures, combining Web3 mechanics with a Web2 standard gaming experience.

Built by ex-Ubisoft, Supercell, and Tap4Fun employees, the mobile game will leverage the Hedera Token Service (HTS) for both in-game item tokenization and to create the $LOP token used to help drive parts of the in-game economy.

Bridging Web2 and Web3

Learning from the mistakes of early Web3 play-to-earn (P2E) gaming models, LOP has a deep focus on both gameplay and tokenomics, ensuring that the in-game economy is sustainable and built for longevity rather than a boom and bust-hype cycle.

At the heart of LOP is the understanding that Web3 mechanics should be used to augment a game, not as the sole reason for playing it. As a result, the LOP universe is built from the ground up with gamers in mind, collating the experience of industry veterans to deliver fresh and unique gameplay to attract a Web2 mass audience.

Players will participate in player-vs-player (PVP) combat, either in a solo queue or a three vs. three format, with each game lasting approximately three minutes. Players will battle their way through the “Historyverse” and navigate the “Heaven of Legends” composed of significant figures from throughout history like Cleopatra.

Enhancing this gaming experience, users will gather fragments of “Artifacts” throughout their journey. These can either be found or purchased and, once combined, become a powerful and legendary item. Artifacts can be used to enhance player abilities for battles and quests. Epic Artifacts can only be bought using HBAR.

The In-Game Rewards Economy

To ensure minimal friction between Web2 and Web2 users, LOP is creating a dual rewards system. For Web2 users this revolves around the non-tradable in-game gold/gems currencies that are protected from speculation and price volatility. In contrast, curious Web2 players and Web3 natives can sell Artifacts into HBAR, the native cryptocurrency of the Hedera network.

The Legend Committee (LOP NFT holders) also participate in governance, earning $LOP tokens based on their communities’ performance in weekly/monthly events. The committee manages the “Legend Vault”, trades Artifacts, elects representatives for tournaments, equips them with Artifacts, and shares LOP rewards.

Rather than being distributed daily, LOP rewards are distributed during events, enabling a unique and immersive experience for all players that rewards active participation from players who are incentivized to play the game and rise to the top.

In order to ensure that Web2 natives also benefit from tournaments, these users will receive classic Web2 rewards such as Gold and Artifacts when their Legend Committee wins an event. The first of these Legend Committees will be the CLEO committee - the first legend to be announced. This cohesive environment ensures a fair and enjoyable gaming experience for everyone involved.

Joining The Legend Committee

After partnerships with leading Hedera ecosystem projects such as Dead Pixel Ghost Club, ADSC, Kabila, Hashpack, and Earthlings, the first public mint of Legends of the Past sold out in seconds.

Now that they're accelerating the production of the game for the beta release, LOP is set to launch the first Legend (CLEO) Committee in September 2023.

Members of the CLEO Committee will be responsible for electing CLEO representatives as part of governance duties, managing the CLEO vault, which houses its NFTs and $LOP token, and will be able to earn $LOP passively based on the performance of the CLEO representative during events.
